Q: What is the recommended age to neuter a female dog?

A: The best time to neuter *( called spay or ovariohysterectomy) a female dog is at 6 months of age - before the first heat. This is not only because younger dogs recover much faster from the surgery but because early neutering has been proven to reduce the incidence to mammary cancer to 0.5%!
